DVB-C USB question
Hello. Do you happen to own a DVB-C USB receiver? I have a question regarding them.
Cheers, –Milan Rađenović (talk) 18:48, 15 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Milan Rađenović: Hi! Yes, I do have one. Ask away :) — Afelix (talk) 19:06, 15 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Afelix: My question would be: Which one do you own and would recommend? I bought a generic Astrometa stick from a Serbian retail website, it was dead on arrival. I am honestly not sure if I should buy it directly from AliExpress because I hear they break very easily and/or are DOA even if you get one from there, so I'd like to hear a second opinion. –Milan Rađenović (talk) 19:24, 15 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Milan Rađenović: I actually happen to have two Astrometa sticks myself and they're the only ones I've ever had. I first bought a second-hand one that has never worked properly on cable, but it did work for DVB-T2, although it was crazy sensitive. I don't use it anymore; I just pretend it doesn't exist.
- I later bought a brand new one from a (Romanian) retailer and it happened to work perfectly. It's a gamble.
- If you do get one, be careful when inserting/taking out the cable. Also, if your cable is rather rigid (like my Triset-113 cables), your receiver could end up staying in a tense position when connected to your PC, which could lead to the RF connector breaking away from the rest of the circuit, so I advise you to get a high-speed USB extension cord, especially if you have a laptop.
- @Afelix: Thanks a lot for the advice, I'll definitely keep it in mind. Now that you mention it, a USB extension cord would be extremely useful, but thankfully nothing seems to have been broken because analog TV even at the highest frequencies is just fine. Meanwhile, my stick reports 0% on everything.

- @Milan Rađenović: Ah, I take it you got the hybrid digital/analog model? I got the DVB/FM/DAB+ one, which has a different build.
- My model (and the other one as well, from what I gather) comes with separate stock apps and drivers for DVB-C and DVB-T/T2; maybe you should check whether you installed the right one. The T/T2 one won't work on C and viceversa.
- Funny thing is, the C and T/T2 drivers are completely identical, except they set different registry values. In my case,
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\AMDVBT2BDA\Parameters\DVBCMode
is set to either 0 or 1 accordingly and I can just flip that when I need to (since my current receiver actually works in both modes as intended). — Afelix (talk) 20:21, 15 June 2020 (UTC)

- @Afelix: No, same model as you, I checked analog with a TV manually.
- I tried different drivers, no clue what I installed the last time but it was set to 0. I set it to 1 and it's still not working, quality 0% –Milan Rađenović (talk) 20:31, 15 June 2020 (UTC)
